1855 Classification

In 1855, for the Universal Exhibition in Paris, a classification of the best Bordeaux wines was established, including several prestigious castles.

Among the classified châteaux, we find Château Lafite Rothschild, known for its finesse and longevity, as well as Château Latour, valued for its power and complexity. Château Margaux, with its unmatched elegance, stands out for its rich aromatic bouquet. Château Haut-Brion, the first Bordeaux to receive such recognition, impresses with its unique style and aging potential. Finally, Château Mouton Rothschild, which received a later distinction, is famous for its artistic labels and remarkable wines.

This classification established a standard of excellence for wines in the region, influencing viticulture and the wine market worldwide.
